Everyone knows the top two topics of conversation to avoid in social situations are: Politic & Religion. On the other hand, you want to let your colleagues and coworkers know you are a Christian. So, how do you balance your faith with being politically correct?
Over the next few weeks, I will be giving examples of ways of discussing your faith in the workplace. I hope to get your feedback and ideas.
The first example - forget being PC!
At a former job, I worked with an extremely outgoing girl that had totally changed her life around when she became a Christian. Previously, she had lead a rough life - including being involved in drugs and alcohol. When she became a Christian she told everyone she met - at the office, clients, vendors, coworkers - that she had become a Christian. She was so excited about her faith that she told everyone - whether they wanted to hear it or not. About a year later, she confessed to me that she went home crying almost every night because of the backlash & scrutiny she received from being so open and outgoing about her faith.
Was this the best way? Could she have handled it any better? If you have any ideas or similar examples, let me know!
