How to handle the unfairness of life
Everyday Choices July 9th, 2008The reality of life is that life just isn’t fair. Criminals go unpunished, politicians are unethical, capable people are unsuccessful, the right person doesn’t always get the promotion, bad things happen to good people, good things happen to bad people.
Why does God let these things happen? There are several reasons, some of the best I have heard are:
- He gives us freedom of choice
- To show us we need a Savior
- Because pains/trails can develop spiritual character
So what can we do about it?
Accept that life is unfair
Ecclesiastes 4:4 And I saw that all labor and all achievement spring from man’s envy of his neighbor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
Do the right thing anyway
Proverbs 29:7 The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.
2 Thessalonian 1:6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you
Wait for God’s reward
Romans 8:18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Great post - this is so true. It reminds me of how great a debt that we have been forgiven of - the least we can do is forgive others of their little debt…
and I really love that Romans 8 verse - that is just a great chapter all the way around…
